Everybody knows when it comes to health and wellness you can count on me to give it to you straight. No beating around the bush, no sugar coating, nothing but the truth! That’s how I show love. It’s only because I want you to be your best self and I want you to live those goals and dreams some of you have told me about.

Keep in mind however, that it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun too. In fact, studies show that those who are having fun when exercising do it longer, more often and enjoy the many health and body benefits that come along with it.

That being said… I had to get in on the latest dance craze! The “Watch me Nae Nae” song and dance. Everybody’s gone wild! That includes me too. Buck Wild! And since I love dance as part of my cardio…Just had to do it!

C’mon and join me in my video version. It’s great cardio!

Did you miss my live interview on San Diego Living? Don’t worry; you can view it now below!

Try out the combo move that Marc and I did. It’s four moves in one. It will test your endurance; work your upper body, your lower body, and your core.

Here’s how to do it!

a. You’re going to squat, come up, jump left, jump right and shoulder press. That counts as 1 rep. Do 10 reps.

Next without stopping…

b. Go into pushup position with weights in hand and alternate doing a right arm row, left arm row and a pushup. That is 1 rep. Do 10 reps.

Now just repeat (a & b) on the other side by jumping right, then jump left with shoulder press and so on. That counts as 1 set. Work up to doing three sets.

That’s it!

If you are a beginner, start with only one move and then move on but finish strong.

Overall, just have fun with it! That’s the key! That’s what I do!

Then just dance like nobody’s watching! ☺

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!

You know people always tell me that I inspire them. That’s great and I love it. It’s a part of my mission, my purpose and who I am.

Perhaps the best inspiration to get fit and stay fit is seeing the women who are accomplishing their goals! But, it doesn’t matter whether it is something they saw me do, heard me say or read about, the fact is that they have been moved and awakened in some way to do more or be more in their life. When that happens you have to pay attention and follow that up.

I believe nothing happens by mistake and everything happens for a reason even though we may not always understand it at the time. In other words a beautiful gift doesn’t always arrive in the way you would expect it, but if you are open to the possibilities, if you are present and if you have a little patience you will hear the message and follow that lead.

I was invited to a meeting presentation the other day and I was asked to stand and say a few words. So I did for just a few minutes. When the meeting was over I spoke with a lady who had met me at one of my previous speaking events. The first thing she said to me was, “You’ve inspired me before and now you’ve inspired me again!” That lead me to believe that although she had been inspired the first time, she had not used it to her advantage. I was right. So my response to her was: “What’s holding you back?” I said, “Don’t be afraid. You are capable. You can do this.”

The intention is to give you some tools to work with and help you understand that you are capable of being more then you already are and that you can free your mind of any perceived limitations.

If you have been inspired by me or anyone else, it’s a wake up call for you to take another step towards improving your life. That is my wish for you! Shift into 2nd gear immediately by taking some action to reach your goals and make some things actually change. Don’t sit back and think about it any longer. Finally get your health, your body and your life in order. If you can’t do it alone, never be afraid to ask for help or get support. Sometimes that’s all it takes.

Wendy’s Fit Fax Tips!

You know what? I am over the moon when I see the magic happen for you as it did for me. In other words I get really excited when you manage to accomplish a wealth of happiness for yourself through reaching your mind, body and spirit goals.

Let inspiration move you by taking some of these actions:

  1. Join that spin class, learn something new or follow up on getting that degree you’ve always wanted.
  2. Don’t be afraid to cease running in those old familiar circles and doing the same things over and over again.
  3. Seek support, ask for help or hire a professional to help you get to where you want to go.

commentWhen was the last time you took it to the next level after being inspired?

Eat to lose & keep it off!

Eat to lose & keep it off!

You know what? I just have to say something because I keep hearing over and over again these words, “I don’t have time to eat breakfast.” Really? I say, Make time if your health is important to you!

The other thing I hear is, “I had such a busy day. I’m too tired to workout.” And again I say, “Don’t let a busy life get in the way of a good workout.”

I know…I know what you’re going to say – Easier said then done Right? Well as you know I never like to tell you what not to do without giving you a plan on how to fix it.

So listen in on the segment I did yesterday (Jan 23, 2015) on TV with San Diego Living 6 – The CW shot live from 9am to 10am. I give tips on how to get your breakfast and your workout on!

In the meantime, be sure to leave your comments and thoughts with me.

Shout out to The CW for making me feel right at home! Tiffany you rock! And Mark you are going to make amazing progress this year! I just know it! I’ll be watching. 🙂

Many have asked the question – Where do I start? Breakfast is where you start. You must break your fast – Fast!

“People skip breakfast because they think they’re cutting calories, but in truth you are setting yourself up for failure because you are starving your body and causing it to increase or sustain weight gain. Your metabolism actually slows down and you tend to eat more later in the day. Plus your energy becomes erratic which is why many complain of lack of energy to not only do your workout but merely function during the day.

According to The National Weight Control Registry People who habitually eat breakfast have maintained a 30-pound (or more) weight loss.

Other research conducted found that regular breakfast eaters were more likely to exercise regularly. And women who ate breakfast regularly tended to eat fewer calories overall during the day.

Fabulous Fit fax!

  1. Start your day with two glasses of water with lemon
  2. Eat a light breakfast that includes protein and a good carb. Some examples are: Carbs – low sugar cereals, oatmeal, and fruit. Proteins – eggs, yogurt)
  3. Always carry healthy snacks with you (like nuts and fruit) so you keep your energy up and you don’t mindlessly nibble on the wrong stuff.

Remember to take one step at a time by developing one new habit at a time. I always say start small and go BIG, but be patient and you will win every time – You’ll reach your goals effortlessly! No Really! ☺

How to Get Kids Active

How to Get Kids Active

Physical activity is equally important for both grown ups and children if they want to lose or maintain their weight. A majority of kids spend more than 20 hours per week watching TV, on the web or playing video games which doesn’t leave much time for physical activity. And even though you give them a chance to do some physical activity, they often avoid it because it does not trigger their interest. So the best thing to do is include some of their favorite things in simple activities and it will sooner rather than later get your kids off the couch. For example, your kids will be exercising as well as loving the activity by just following some of these tips!

  1. Take the Dog for a walk: Kids love pets! A good way to turn this love for pets into a physical activity is to get them a dog. Prior to getting them the dog, make a deal with them that it’s their responsibility to take it on walks. You can add more fun to this activity by getting them a Frisbee, which will keep them involved in training the dog and meanwhile they’re burning calories.
  2. Leverage their Allowance: If your kids are into earning their allowance. Then it’s your best bet to convert this allowance earning into a physical activity. Give them allowance for performing chores that require physical work, such as mowing the lawn, raking leaves, or even a car wash! What persuades kids is the outcome of the activity, and when the outcome is monetary or something tangible, then they are sure to love the activity and perform it every now and then.
  3. Lead by Example: Kids usually learn from their elders, and try to relate to their older family members. So if you are a parent and are into fitness chances are that your kid will also turn out to be a fitness conscious person. What you could do is to indulge them in your activities. Like when you go for a walk in the evening take your kid with you, and on the way you can both chat about school stories or what happened in the day. It will make your parent-child bond grow, and the kids will enjoy the walk.
  4. Theme parks: If you have an amusement park or even regular parks in your neighborhood then take your kids daily in the evening to play and mingle with kids of their own age. This will give them a chance to be both socially and physically active. Also, frequent trips to the zoo will definitely keep the kids moving!
  5. Shake a tail feather: Turn on the music and shake your body! Dancing is one of the most enjoyable and fascinating ways to burn calories. Get your kids to join you and make it a family dance, it does not need to be any specific kind of dance. Just let the kids enjoy it! As long as they keep moving your mission is being accomplished.

Children have very active minds, and this is the phase of life where you can turn them into a couch potato or a fitness fanatic. Parents can make all the difference in how they can be.  Remember there are tons of other ways to get your child active that ride the line of fitness and leisure. So be creative, and most of all, have fun!

Diets Don’t Work

Diets Don’t Work

Weight loss is a major topic of concern these days. Many people are overweight in our society today. The average American lives a very sedentary life style. There is also an overabundance of processed foods and fast foods that make it easy for most people to gain weight. A large amount of people suffer from low self esteem due to a poor body image. The desire to fit in and look thin can cause people to drastically and quickly lose weight and then gain it back. This is very unhealthy. Stop the madness before it causes problems.

Gaining weight is a process that happens over a gradual amount of time. As excess food is eaten, the body begins to store it as fat. Unhealthy food choices and lack of exercise cause weight gain. This process cannot be reversed overnight. The body needs time to gradually remove the excess fat. Many people want to make drastic changes to quickly remove fat. This can lead to starvation and excessive exercise. People will impose very strict dieting regimens on themselves to lose weight. They are then unable to maintain this unnatural sort of diet and eventually succumb to temptation and gain the weight back again. That why diets don’t work.

Dieting is very unhealthy for the body and the emotions, especially when it involves drastic swings. This behavior sets up a repeated pattern of failure. This can cause depression and a sense of despair. This type of dieting is sure to fail. There are always new fad diets being advertised that promise quick weight loss. Even though some initial weight may be lost, the body will always win the fight for survival and you will need to eat again. Don’t diet just eat a healthy, balanced and portion controlled meal. It’s the best way to make sure that your body stays in balance and your emotions remain calm.

The best approach to weight loss is the approach that utilizes sound nutrition and exercise. A reasonable approach seeks to lose a steady amount of weight over a gradual amount of time. In this way the body is able to maintain health and slowly use its stored fuel without feeling like it is being starved. Yo-yo dieting can become an addiction that leads to an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. Be kind to your body, be patient and build muscle.  Slow steady progress is the best way to permanent weight loss and health.

Dangers of Fast Weight Loss

Dangers of Fast Weight Loss

The vast majority of us that need to lose a little bit of weight would like to be able to lose it quickly. There are some dangers of fast weight loss, however, that need to be addressed whenever we decide to drop the pounds in this way. The unfortunate thing is, the temptation still exists and it is often prompted even further by those that are selling us the weight-loss products. Here are some of the dangers and why you should avoid losing weight quickly.

  1. First of all, fast weight loss often results in a rebound of weight gain. This is because we are not teaching ourselves healthy eating habits whenever we are losing weight quickly, and we are perhaps putting ourselves on a regime that is unsustainable.
  2. Fast weight loss also tends to take its toll on other parts of the body as well, such as the hair, skin and many of the internal organs. This could lead to further difficulties after the weight-loss has subsided.
  3. One of the other dangers of fast weight loss is that if you are losing a lot of weight, your skin may not be able to keep up with the weight-loss. This is often one of the biggest cosmetic issues with individuals who lose weight, and in many cases it is avoidable.
  4. Losing more than two pounds a week is generally not recommended and can be hazardous to your health unless you are under the direct guidance of a doctor.
  5. When you lose weight fast don’t be duped in thinking its all body fat.  On the contrary, you are losing precious muscle and other bodily fluids.  And trust me you do not want to lose muscle. It is what gobbles up the fat and keeps you going among other things.  TV shows like “Big Loser” give many a false sense of reality.

Although it does take a bit more patience, you can avoid the dangers of fast weight loss by eating a healthy diet which maintains a calorie deficit and getting a reasonable amount of exercise. Although it may not be as exciting as losing weight quickly, it is something that can stick with you for the rest of your life.

Travel and Excercise

Travel and Excercise

What generally happens to our physical fitness program when we travel?  It all goes down hill right? Well it doesn’t have to be that way. All it takes is planning and a clear mind set of what you want to achieve.  So often people tell me when they go on vacation or away on a business trip, they not only didn’t workout, but they over ate on all the wrong foods.

Here are some rules of thumb to live by when traveling:

#1 Rule – Don’t stay anywhere that doesn’t have a gym.  These days that is pretty hard not to find.

#2 Rule – Plan your workout time just like you plan your meal times and pencil it into your day planner the same as you would if you were planning a business lunch.

#3 Rule – Reprioritize and rearrange your mindset on where exercise ranks in your life. Be sure to put it at the top.  It must be recognized as a necessary and automatic function – Just like waking up in the morning and brushing your teeth or looking for breakfast.

#4 Rule – If you are short on time do body weight exercises and/or whip out that exercise tube I so often talk about and get busy.

#5 Rule – Make smart dining choices.  Just because you are away from home there is still no excuse for eating bad.  Many places today have a small selection of healthy menus.  If they don’t, you have to mix, match and just ask for what you want.  I do it all the time and 95% of the time I get my way.

Traveling is stressful and exercise is the antidote – No doubt!  How are you handling the stress when traveling?  Are you creative or just playing it by ear?
